Using a natural artist's eye for composition and a designer's mind for what works, I have successfully created advertising, booklets and leflets for many companies, taking on several rebranding exercises.
Rebranding of their Refreshers, Zinger and Thorncroft ranges, where I created hand drawn illustrations of plants and also loose-inked and gouache drawings of fruits and vegetables. Follow up work included packaging, magazine advertisments and product tasting notes, all whilst working within existing brand guidelines and developing the new sub-brand guidelines within challenging deadlines. Knowledge and use of creative software includes Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Rush.
Working in both traditional and digital methods to utilize my client's brief, I offer a range of creative styles and techniques including hand drawn, painted or computerised art within a rapid turnaround.
Creation of intricate vector imagery using Adobe Illustrator, as well as hand- painted mixed media Norfolk seal studies for their academic resources department.
Good images makes all the difference. 97% of newspapers pages are accessed through a picture, and it's the same elsewhere. With a background of press and marketing photography behind me, I know what the current styles are and how to incorporate client branding, including adding their key brand colours into the work. The benefit of having the design experience means the outcome will be well planned, creative images that are suitable for both print and web use.
This section is less of a 'day job' to me and more of a personal interest or work in my free time. Reflecting on my natural Norfolk surroundings feeds my love of landscape painting and human life drawing; I particularly enjoy contemporary mark-making with mixed media.
This work looks at how we can be strong when all around us feels chaotic, by using visual thoughts from my regular walk journey.
After studying design and photography at the then Norwich School of Art and Design, I started my artistic career more than twenty years ago, as an NCTJ-qualified photojournalist, working in a team for a variety of newspapers, magazines and national news agencies. During this time, I continued drawing and painting as a hobby and have continued my studies in Fine Art. After some time away from work to have a family, I returned to my creative side to offer my services as a designer as well as a photographer and artist. It is a pleasure to be able to utilise all my creative knowledge and experience together!
